Experience on police- community partnership

Police-community Partnership
On the day of 14th May, 2019, our school conducted a program for the students of grade 10 with the police community. The main motive of this program was to create awareness among students regarding the crime actions, cyber crimes, rules & regulations, punishment schemes and some safety measures to crimes in Nepal. We were taught about how to react when we witness crimes and how to tackle it in a smart way. In the program, a police officer described about all the circumstances that one may face during crime occurrence. He had an active presentation which created a huge impact on us.
The whole idea of an investigation process, dealing with criminals and arresting them was imparted. He made us clear about the difference between the criminal and the suspect along with a perception that most of the Nepalese people creates when a suspect is taken to a police station. We were also familiarized about various traffic rules and signs that we need to follow but were completely unknown about. He gave us an emergency number for safety purpose to contact whenever we witness any crime. Since, the technology is advancing in a rapid pace, many cyber crimes are increasing along with it. So, we were introduced to many incidents related cyber crimes. One of the incidents was about a woman who became a victim of cyber crime. She got a message from unknown person that she could get an opportunity to travel to Canada if she pays the demanded amount. She handed over the money as asked. The unknown person asked her to have a medical test online where her video was recorded. Later, her video of medical test was used by the culprit to blackmail her. She was threatened and asked for a huge amount to keep her video secret.  She, then, went to the police station and reported about the incident. Finally, the criminal was arrested. This was an example of cyber crime.
Therefore, we were encouraged to stay alert and aware from those frauds and crimes in all possible ways. We were also suggested not to share our personal information like personal details, passwords, secrets etc which can be used against us or which can drag us into problems. Even if the person is our friend or relative, we should be very aware about whom we are sharing our information with. Moreover, we should be more careful on social media and internet these days. It is just a matter of click to get oneself trapped in cyber crimes. Sharing too much on social media and accepting strangers’ friend requests should be stopped to make oneself safe. Hence, staying alert, aware and cautious is very important to be safe from crimes.
